FAQs. General Information
What equipment do I need to bring?
Here is a quick list of stuff to bring. It is best to arrive with your swimsuit already on underneath your clothes. We suggest bringing a backpack or small bag with the following items:
- Towel
- Hat
- Sunscreen
- Sandals
You are welcome to use your own equipment but if needed a foam surfboard and wetsuit can be provided provided. Fulcrum Surf also offers great deals on boards & suits deals for our students.
I can already surf. Do you have any lessons for me?
Beginner lessons can be a great refresher if you have surfed a few times without any formal instruction. Our intermediate lessons are perfect if you can stand up consistently and are ready to progress to turning, using the rip, catching unbroken waves etc. If you are unsure of what your skill level is, your instructor will help you evaluate your skill and what goals to set for your training.
In group lessons & camps what is the ratio of instructors to students?
For camps it’s 2:1, students-to-instructors! We are the only 2 students to 1 instructor ratio in the industry. This allows us to give students the attention needed to both learn the skills of surfing & build confidence in and out of the water.
Private lessons are of course 1:1. Semi-private & larger private groups can vary staying as close to 2:1 as possible as the group grows.

Is it required that I stay while my kids are in camp?
Although not required we encourage parents to stay & watch their kids during camps & lessons. Especially for young and beginning students as it helps with their confidence knowing you are there.
As with any group sports activity as your kids make friends, grow in their confidance and become more independent it may be less imparitive.
We do ask that you respectfully adhere to the specified drop off & pickup times as the allows for all students & class to get equal attention from the Fulcrum instructors.
Where does Fulcrum Surf hold it’s Camps & Lessons?
All camps & lessons take place in Del Mar at Powerhouse Park near on Coast Blvd. 15th St. Please be aware these areas are for dropoff & and pickup only. Students and/or parents must find suitable parking if needed. Look for your instructor wearing a light blue shirt marked “SURF COACH”.
