Most people have taken a surf lesson during vacation or from a friend in their lifetime. That’s a great start but there are two types of surf schools that you should know before you choose a surf school. Most surf schools in San Diego have very little training for their surf instructors. They are summer grads, surf enthusiasts, and newbies that will be teaching you. Now that’s okay if you are getting a one time lesson and the focus is just to have fun and learn the basics.
Here at Fulcrum Surf, everything starts from the owners who have competed in surfing most of their lives and have coached surf teams and lead surf trips around the world. If the owners don’t have the expertise, how would they know what to teach to his surf coach staff? Justin Spadafora ensures top notch training for his coaches in order to ensure you are in good hands when you choose Fulcrum Surf. The process of hand picking and filtering coaches is a huge task. After training the new coaches, one out of 4 coaches will be selected in further training on his path into becoming a premier coach. Our elite coaches review film, have monthly meetings, and are monitored to refine them through their journey.
In the same process, Fulcrum Surf coaches have the same accountability to you. We will give you multiple facets or views and ways to create the whole picture in a way for you to understand. From choosing the right surfboards, tide knowledge, reading sandbars, and to get you in the mindset of believing in yourself, our coaches will do whatever it takes to reach your surfing goals. You won’t hear the same old “bend your knees” phrase over and over. You will learn how two different paddle techniques such as your setup paddle and your transition paddles to help you catch the wave instead of fearing the wave. You will cut your learning curve in a quarter time than trying it by yourself and concreting bad habits in the process that will have to be unlearned later.
